Adhesively bonded CFRP/Al joints: Influence of the surface pretreatment on corrosion during salt spray test

نویسندگان

چکیده

The objective of this study was to investigate the influence different surface pretreatments on aging behavior adhesively bonded carbon fiber reinforced polymers/Al joints in a standardized salt spray environment. Therefore, bonding surfaces were acetone-cleaned or laser-pretreated by near-infrared laser radiation. pretreated examined using optical microscopes, roughness measurements, and infiltration tests. Mechanical testing performed unaged state after five durations from 120 1440 h. specimens lose maximum 20% their initial average shear strength 22 MPa up In contrast, fracture patterns samples show corrosive degradation 720 h, indicating galvanic coupling crevice corrosion. This leads significant decrease 50% h aging. some strategies avoid contact corrosion via pretreatment joining process are presented additionally.

Computational Models of Adhesively Bonded Joints

Simulations using the Finite Element Method (FEM) play an increasingly important role in the design process of joints and fasteners in the aerospace industry. In order to utilize the potential of such adhesive bonding, there is an increasing need for effective and accurate computational methods. The geometry and the nature of an adhesive joint are, however, not so simple to describe effectively...

Modelling the Fracture Behaviour of Adhesively-bonded Joints as a Function of Test Rate

Tapered-double cantilever-beam joints were manufactured from aluminium-alloy substrates bonded together using a single-part, rubber-toughened, epoxy adhesive. The mode I fracture behaviour of the joints was investigated as a function of loading rate by conducting a series of tests at crosshead speeds ranging from 3.33 x10 m/s to 13.5 m/s. Unstable, (i.e. stick-slip crack) growth behaviour was o...

The Effects of Surface Pretreatment on the Cyclic-Fatigue Characteristics of Bonded Aluminium-Alloy Joints

The present work has used an accelerated test method, based upon cyclic-fatigue testing using a fracture-mechanics approach, to study the durability of organosilanepretreated joints which were adhesively-bonded using a hot-cured epoxy-film adhesive. The silane primer investigated was γ-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPS). The cyclic-fatigue tests were mainly conducted in (a) a ‘dry’ environme...

Propagation of ultrasonic Lamb waves in adhesively bonded lap joints

This paper considers the bonded joint as a multilayer structure that is analysed using the Transfer Matrix method. In this particular case three layers (two adherents and the adhesive) are considered. The study of this propagation problem may be developed from matrix formulations which describe elastic waves in layered media. This technique combines the theory of the dynamics of the continuum w...
